Grouped failure report by domain
When a whole site moves (docs.example.com becomes example.com/docs), link-validator reports dozens of separate dead links. Grouping the failures by registered name and host makes the pattern obvious without any AI:
-
Group failing URLs by host and by shared path prefix.
-
If most registered links on one host fail with redirects to one new host or prefix, report it as a probable domain move: "14 of 15 links on docs.example.com redirect to example.com/docs/…".
-
Because each link lives once in the registry, the fix is one edit per name, or one search-and-replace in the registry file. Pages do not change.
Linkinator in-page translation
The JSON index (_/link-registry/index.json) already maps each outbound URL to its registered name and the pages that use it. A Linkinator button could use it to:
-
show "registered as
{url-...}, used on 7 pages" when a reader or author hovers a link; -
list those pages, so an author who finds a dead link sees every page it affects;
-
translate a pasted literal URL into the attribute to write.
